I took this photograph on my trusty Nikon FM2 back in 2000. I'd just won the Observer Photographer of the Year, and part of my prize was a trip to India. 

A beautifully seen moment, this image depicts all the character and resourcefulness that I saw on my travels; I loved the way that life was lived and played out on the street - all were welcome, anyone could join in. In the most deprived circumstances, there was dignity, hope and inspiration. 

This is a limited edition print on Hahnemuhle fine art paper, mounted in double thickness conservation board. Framed in bespoke natural ash, behind museum quality anti-reflection glass. Signed and numbered.
